Council candidate for Toller Ward
I am standing once more for South Kesteven District Council after having served eight years for my three villages. Due to my professional background in urban and rural regeneration , property and planning I have been able to help SKDC implement its ambitious plans for bringing development and jobs to the District as well as protecting our natural and historic environment. In particular I have been responsible for the new Draft Local Plan which, amongst other changes, aims to loosen the previously tight restrictions on housing in smaller villages – Folkingham and Horbling included.
Most of all I have enjoyed working for local residents and businesses - helping them cut through red tape and bureaucracy and putting them in touch with the right authorities and people. I have made five small grant awards from my member’s fund to local communities ranging from mother and toddler groups, through a local choir to an amateur dramatics group. I have worked closely with the local parish councils to bring projects to fruition such as new play equipment to Billingborough and Horbling’s Recreation Ground and 30 brand new allotments for Billingborough. A number of challenges face the next four years including combatting rural isolation, ensuring our local facilities survive and grow and tackling the straw-drop problem in the villages which continues despite the success of the Big Clean.
