Cllr Sarah Tallon, St Albans City Council and Hertfordshire County Council, elected 2021
I am both the County and District Councillor for London Colney in St Albans, having been elected to represent the village on both Hertfordshire County Council and St Albans City and District Council for the first time in May this year, defeating a long-established Labour councillor in the process. During my campaign, I canvassed hundreds of residents, listened to their concerns and focussed on the issues that were important to them.
Throwing yourself into your community is one of the most rewarding things you can do. There are many routes to this – through volunteering, taking on a community role, or getting involved in politics. There is nothing quite like being a local champion and a local councillor. Whether it’s helping resolve problems with local services, getting into the detail of planning applications, or fighting for our village high street, I have a huge sense of optimism for the future London Colney voted for in May, and it is an honour to be trusted by so many residents to deliver it. This is what motivates and drives me to keep fighting for our village, on the outskirts of St Albans, with Conservative values and ideas.
Standing for council is tough work, but it is great to have the opportunity to serve and to get to work with so many people who are so dedicated to the community. Change can only happen when we fight for it from the grassroots, and I’m thrilled that Grantham and Stamford Conservatives are putting so much effort into encouraging people to stand.
